ORANGE Emus have won their last four games on the trot but, surprisingly, they have concerns about tomorrow’s match against Cowra.
Emus have downed Forbes, Dubbo Rhinos, CSU Bathurst and Orange City in their last four games to launch themselves into the top five and semi-final contention.
Tomorrow they travel to Cowra to take on the ninth-placed team in the Blowes Menswear Cup competition but Emus co-coach Matt Greatbatch is wary.
“I’m probably more worried about playing Cowra than I am about Narromine (the following week),” Greatbatch said.
“We don’t travel well to Cowra. You expect to get the points from that game but it doesn’t always happen that way.”
Emus were clear 43-12 winners in round seven when Cowra came to Orange but Greatbatch said there’s something about the return trip that is more unpredictable.
“We have to go in with a different mindset,” he said.
“We can’t expect it’s going to be a stroll in the park.
“We are playing well but we’re not out of the woods yet.
“I’ve got faith in the boys for this weekend.
“It’s not all doom and gloom.”
Emus’ dominant forward pack will remain unchanged for tomorrow’s game but a number of backline players were required to prove they would be right to play last night at training.
There are injury clouds over the side’s fullback Joel Plummer and outside centre Owen Thomas, while classy winger Nik Granger may also be unavailable due to coaching commitments.
If needed Charlie Sullivan will come in for Plummer, Thomas will be replaced by Paul Mullins and Matt Kennedy will start on the wing in Granger’s absence.
In other Blowes Menswear Cup matches tomorrow Bathurst travels to Narromine, CSU host Forbes and Parkes take on Dubbo Rhinos.
