THE Wallabies’ loss is Orange City’s gain.
Injured fly-half Quade Cooper will be a guest at the Orange City Rugby Club’s Charity Ball next month.
The Orange club secured Cooper as the fundraising event’s feature thanks to some help from Wallabies coach Robbie Deans.
Deans recently made a trip to Orange to have dinner with Lions president Steve Stone and friend Ken Hazelton.
From here is was established Cooper would be available to attend the Charity Ball on March 24.
“Because Quade is injured, he’s got a bit of time so he can come up,” Stone explained.
“To have a Wallaby of his status coming is fantastic.”
Cooper needed a reconstruction after injuring his right knee during the Wallabies’ bronze medal match against Wales in last year’s Rugby World Cup.
Stone said exactly what role Cooper would fill at the Charity Ball was not finalised.
“We haven’t planned what we’ll do. We’ll talk to him and see what he wants,” he said.
The OCRU Charity Ball is raising money for Rocky Mileto, a former Lions players who was injured during a game and has since been in a wheelchair.
The formal event will be held at Orange Ex-Services Club on March 24 from 6pm.
Tickets are available from Orange Ex-Services Club and include a three-course meal and entertainment.
