Junior carnival a victim of scheduling

RUGBY LEAGUE

THE problem-plagued Orange CYMS Junior Rugby League Carnival has again been forced off the calendar due to tight scheduling at Jack Brabham Park.

Organiser Martin Power said yesterday the event would not go ahead this autumn as a suitable date could not be found before the start of the season.

The junior carnival, which has been running for around three decades, has encountered problem after problem the last three years.

The event has been called off in the past as the Jack Brabham Park surface was deemed too hard to play rugby league on, and now difficulty in finding a date for the carnival is the problem this year.

Power will endeavour to organise the carnival for later this year or at its regular time before the start of next season. But if he is unsuccessful in reviving the carnival, that may be the end for the once annual junior event.

“I think I’ll try one more time at getting it happening, but if we can’t, I don’t think I will bother,” Power said. “It’s a shame to lose things like this.”
