ORANGE and District Pistol Club was host to the NSW service team members for a practice last Saturday as they prepared or the state titles in Wagga Wagga this weekend.
National champion Dean Brus, of Orange, Greg Armstrong (Young) and Tony Drabbs (Parkes) make up the team.
Other top shooters arrived to give them competition - Ray Gray (Thelmore), Glenn Pollack (Parkes), Mike Appleton (St Ives), Max Wicks and Brett Emerson (Orange) and one female shooter from Thelmore.
Brus said competition was fierce and above average scores were carded.
Club members took the chance to do repairs around the range and shot a practice match of rapid fire after the working bee.
They included Roger Bond, Derek Wells, Peter Keegan, Daniel Barresi, Doug Swain, Jamie McKenzie, Garry McKay, Maisie Harvey, Andrew Bond, Scott Adams, Paul Simmons, Brad Selwood and Vicky Gascoyne, while probationary John Houghton was put through his learning lesson.
Dean Brus broke grade with a 565/600 score in last Wednesday night's air pistol which takes him a step further towards the state team scores. Brus is practising hard for the titles to be held at Cessnock in October.
Djuro Cikaric scored a 498, Andrew Bond 398 and John Houghton 523.
