ORANGE District Pistol Club has been forced to move the Central Western Championships to April.
Due to the little athletics championships being held on February 19/20 in Orange there is no accommodation in the area.
As a result the pistol club has postponed the championships to April 16/17.
It hopes the club's regular visitors can fit in with the new date as many used February to gain a qualifying score for the nationals.
A Wagga shooter was heard to say about the club's Central Western championships: "In 2003 they tried to drown us after a torrential storm; in 2004 they tried to cook us (the frightening fire which devoured the ranges), what can happen in 2005?".
The club's next committee meeting will be held at the range on February 12 and this Saturday there will be a working bee morning and a shoot after lunch.
Ring Dean on 6365-3731 or Brian 6361-3781.
The club's range was kept busy last weekend when the state service pistol team (and other top shooters) arrived for a training session in preparation for the national titles in Brisbane from March 21 to 28.
Orange's Dean Brus, David Oates and Max Wicks will be competing over those dates and will be in hard training over the weeks ahead.
Club members shot rapid fire and were all well down on their scores: Brian Johnson 208-178-386, Trevor Archer 143-193-336, Roger Bond 147-145-292; Garry McKay 160-110-270, Darren Hack (probationary) 99-124-223.
Thanks to June Wicks and Janine Brus who helped out Maisie Harvey in the canteen.
