Central West c'ships attract top shots

PISTOL SHOOTING, THE Orange and District Pistol Club is gearing up for their 37th Central Western Championships. , Formed in 1964, the club has only missed one year hosting the championships., With over 90 individual entries for February 16/17, it shapes as a classic competition., Some of the cream of pistol shooters from all over NSW and ACT have entered Masters and A grade, along with B, C and D graders., Olympian Philip Adams from Forbes will compete in four Masters events, along with David Moore (Sydney), a 2000 Olympian who is entering five matches. Pat Murray (St Ives), an Oympic and Commonwealth Games representative in rapid fire and Bob Dowling (Dubbo), another Commonwealth Games shooter, will also compete in rapid fire and four other disciplines., Other top shooters include Kel Vickers (Cessnock), a State team member who will shoot in Masters in all events, Max Hogg (Tamworth) and Tony Jesic (Liverpool)., The women's section includes State team representatives Lloma Laws (Cessnock), Marie Rhdquist, Stephanie Vos (Oberon), Cheryl Moore (Sydney), Claire Hogg, juniors Dannielle and Debra Moleman, A and B grade shooters from Blacktown and Lisa Garvin, along with mum Christine and dad David, all regulars to Orange club., All are in the NSW top 10 and will be vying for scores to include them in the national titles to be held in Hobart over the Easter week. , Orange member Dean Brus, now in A grade for rapid fire, will be in top form as he trials for a place in the State team, while David Oates, shooting A grade scores for centre fire and air pistol, is also expected to be among the placings., Both are in the top 10 for service matches - Brus holds the record nationally for service unrestricted. , Helen Johnson, gold medallist for C grade air at the 2001 State titles, will be there to maintain her winning form. , Trophy presentations will be made about 4pm on February 17., Spectators are welcome at the Icely Road range, with a canteen and catering for light meals., ,
