The team has been promoted to the top grade after dominating the division two blue competition since the season started.

By moving Zoom Zoom into division one, the bye has been removed from the competition.

Canobolas Zoom Zoom captain Gabrielle Simmons said her side is looking forward to testing themselves against the top teams in Orange.

“In division two we were winning all our games quite easily. So we requested that we move into division one,” Simmons explained.

“We’re a bit excited and a bit nervous.”

Division one is not totally foreign to the Zoom Zoom girls, as Simmons, Maree Vaughan, Sheree Gleeson and Melissa Waters have all tested themselves in the top grade previously.

Simmons said she wasn’t sure how her side would fare in the top grade but was confident they could be competitive.

“Our shooting team this year is very good,” Simmons said.

“We have a new player in Kristen Zinga who gives us a good height advantage and we haven’t had that before. We also have a great defence end.

“We have a rising talent in Taylah Duncan. She plays in the Canobolas 15s and then backs up with us. She’s a very handy pick up. Everyone has their own strengths they bring to the team.”

Canobolas Zoom Zoom will have a tough first assignment when they take on Sheahan 1 today.

Simmons knows her side will be tested against the students.

“By all accounts they’re a pretty handy unit,” Simmons said.

“So we’ll have our work cut out for us in our first game. As long as we play well as a team and we’re competitive, we’ll be happy.”

Canobolas Zoom Zoom and Sheahan 1 will play at 2.30pm.

In other division one matches today Robin Hood take on Kelly’s, High A play Royals, Robin Hood Fitness Perfection go up against Westoil and Kinross 1sts square off with Canobolas A.
