A CRUSTY Demons rider was on hand to offer his advice when the Canobolas Motorcycle Club held coaching schools recently.
Ben Fiez made an appearance during the morning school for junior riders looking to renew their racing licences.
Canobolas Motorcycle Club president Anthony Corby said Fiez’s appearance was a hit with everyone.
“That was great,” Corby said.
“He spoke to the kids for probably 15 minutes. He told them about his experiences, his injuries and his safety precautions. It was a good talk.”
The morning school was a compulsory coaching session for those wanting to renew their racing licences.
Corby said the juniors in the morning school performed well and it gave them a chance to refresh their skills after a break.
“We did basic drills and then did some more advanced skills,” Corby explained.
“The kids can get a bit rusty during the break so we were tuning them up again.”
In the afternoon, six 50cc riders went through the Kick Start Program to get their first licences.
They completed and riding test and a written test and can now apply for their licences.
Corby said it was great to see six new junior riders ready to join the club.
“It has been good. Numbers of new riders had dropped off the last few years,” he said.
“But this year numbers are looking good and are probably back up to what they were in 2006 and 2007. It’s good to see riders returning.”
The Canobolas Motorcycle Club is accepting membership for the 2012 season and these are available at Morris Motorcycles.
The club’s first event will be their opening motocross round, which will be held on March 25 and Newhaven Park, out Burrendong Way.
The club holds motocross and enduro events throughout the year.
