LAWN BOWLS
ORANGE City Ladies’ Bowling Club president Meg Burrell is confident.
“They’re going to win it. We’re already polishing the post,” she said.
Burrell and her Orange City team-mates will take on some of the best bowlers NSW has to offer in August after taking out the Western Zone No.3 pennant in Dubbo a fortnight ago.
Orange City defeated Cowra and Dubbo Railway in two close ties for the right to represent Group H at The Entrance from August 15-19.
And they’re no strangers to this level of competition, either.
Last year Orange City progressed to the state finals of the No.4 pennant and the club claimed the state title in 2002 in the prestigious No.2 pennant.
“Last year we made it this far in the No.4 pennant and went to Sawtell. We were beaten down there but we have learned from that,” Burrell said.
“There has been so much support for us, it’s wonderful. We’re very excited because it’s a big thing when you think of how many bowlers are involved in it.”
The state pennant finals will be played in a round robin format, with each club fielding two teams of four bowlers.
Five points are up for grabs in each tie, with a rink win earning one point and an overall win from the two ties earning three points.
Molong have also qualified for the state finals in the No.4 pennant.
