LAWN BOWLS
JUST one shot stood in the way of Jack Taylor winning both the singles and pairs titles at the Zone 5 Junior Championships at Wentworth Falls, but selection in two zone teams is ample reward for strong performances.
Taylor won the boys’ singles at the zone tournament but he and Molong’s Steve Shannon were beaten by just one shot in the pairs final.
This comes after Taylor took out the Western Districts junior singles crown and finished runner-up to Rex Cochrane in Orange City’s men’s singles.
Taylor will now represent Zone 5 at the junior state championships and in the seven-a-side team for a state carnival in August.
The 17-year-old will bowl in the singles in the seven-a-side, while his six team-mates will contest and pairs and the fours.
“I’ve been picked in the zone seven-a-side for the state championships,” Taylor said.
“The best seven players from our zone go and play the best seven players from other zones. And because I won the singles, I go to state as well.
“This is my second time in the seven-a-side ... and I made state, so I will have all of the selectors looking at me.
“Seeing this is my last year of juniors, it’s really good to make it.”
