LAWN BOWLS
THE lawn bowls capital of the Central West is fast becoming Molong.
Brothers Toby and Kaleb Weekes stepped out in the town’s colours last weekend to take out the Western Districts president’s pairs.
Competing against teams from right across the Central West, including Bathurst, Orange, Blayney and Millthorpe, the pair made it to the final of the competition to take on another pair from Molong.
The pairs wasn’t the only win for the club, with the Western District fours team headed by Bobby Hamilton and Gus Weekes also going home with the sweet taste of victory.
Gus Weekes says the weekend’s result was very pleasing, especially in the pairs.
“It’s really good for the club,” he said.
“The president’s pairs was the first time the boys had played together for the club and we couldn’t be happier.”
After taking a short break from the sport, both Toby and Kaleb always knew they’d come away with the win.
“We said we were going to win before we even started,” Toby joked.
“We were always quietly confident we could get the result.”
However, the brothers didn’t have the competition all their own way.
The boys won their second game 19-18 and the third 21-20, before coming home strongly to win the final 25-16 with one end still to play.
“We had those close finishes but we always knew we were going to go alright,” Kaleb said.
The pair will now represent Molong in the zone pairs, competing against teams from as far away as Bowral.
