GREYHOUNDS
SPRING Hill trainer Les Whitton landed a double to emerge as the shining light of the Dubbo Greyhound Racing Club’s meet at Dawson Park on Saturday night.
Sonny’s Boy ($4.00) got the ball rolling with a slashing 18.28s win over the 313m distance in the Coolabah Goat Company Stakes when he scored a hollow seven-and-a-half lengths margin when the judge called a halt.
In the following race - the Baker Business Equipment Stakes (313m) - Janderra’s Magic ($3.00) put paid to a handy top grade field to also take full advantage of a wide draw to a score a relatively easy 18.33s win. The $2.00 favourite Feraro Spice was third but seven lengths from the winner.
The ‘Irinka Man’ Ray Smith took out the only 516m race on the card - the Free Choice West Dubbo Stakes - when Irinka Craig (Bond x Irinka Tahnee) at $3.00 out stayed race favourite Runabout ($2.50) in a heady battle to score by one-and-a-half lengths in a handy 30.49s.
Long-serving Dubbo starter Brian ‘Cushion’ Bush was all smiles after Tania’s Mystery led all the way in the Dubbo Vet Hospital Stakes (400m) to score in 23.63s for himself and partner Tania Wilson.
The party in East Dubbo would have gone long into the night as bookmakers bet as much as $10.00 about the chances of Tania’s Mystery.
