Poor start costs Conran weekend action in NZ

Orange’s Steve Conran would have been wanting a better start to 2010 after he missed the cut at the New Zealand Open last week.

Conran carded rounds of 74 and 71 as the rest of the field posted plenty of sub-par rounds.

The Orange professional started poorly as he recorded two bogeys and two double bogeys to sit at six-over after 12 holes in his first round.

He then went on a run, picking a shot on each of the next four holes to finish his first round at two-over.

Birdies on the first and fifth holes of his second round got Conran back to even before two bogeys and another birdie saw him sit at one-over after 36 holes, which was three shots off the cut.
