DUNTRYLEAGUE (1) is on track to defend its Central Western District Golf Association division one pennants title.

It remains the only unbeaten team after three rounds thanks to a 4-1 victory over Duntryleague (2) yesterday.

The two sides battled out some tight matches but the defending champions came out on top.

Robert Payne edged out Lloyd Dunlop 2 and 1 and Wayne Carpenter won by the same margin over Mal Gregor.

Dean Turner defeated Adrian Priest 1 up while Michael Campbell downed Min Cheng 2 up.

Brett Mackin was the only Duntryleague (2) player to celebrate a win, beating Dave Corby 2 and 1.

Wentworth’s chances of challenging for the pennant took a blow yesterday after they went down to Dubbo 3-2.

Craig Coles defeated Dubbo’s Phil Munro 4 and 3, while Craig Stojanovic was the other Wentworth player to get a win with a convincing 7 and 6 victory over Graham Allan.

Dubbo’s Joel Head, Dave Gleeson and Anthony Kek celebrated wins over their respective opponents Geoff Wright, John Dawson and PJ Russell.

This moved Dubbo into second and Wentworth to a share of fourth with Wellington.

In the other game Bathurst downed Wellington 3-2.

Bathurst’s Mike Stanford had a 2 and 1 win over Ben McCarthy, John Cousins won 4 and 3 over John Donnelly and Darrell Bourke defeated Darren Whiteley 3 and 1.

Wellington’s Joe Ryan won the battle of the No.1s, beating Paul Bright on the 19th.

Col Sheridan was the other Wellington player to taste victory, defeating Tom McIntosh 1up.

Next week the teams will travel to Wentworth where the host club will take on Duntryleague (2), Bathurst will play Duntryleague (1) and Dubbo will go up against Wellington.

Division 1 points: Duntryleague (1) 4.1, Bathurst 2.8, Dubbo 2.7, Wellington 1.7, Wentworth 1.7, Duntryleague (2) 0.5.
