THE Orange Basketball Association (OBA) is christening their new home at the Anzac Park Sports Facility with their finals and grand finals.

Finals have been played this week and senior teams will play in the deciders next week.

OBA president Jarrad Klose said everyone was thrilled to be at their new home.

The Association has been playing at Kinross Wolaroi School since work on the Anzac Park facility started last year.

Moving in to the new facility offers the association a number of things according to Klose.

“Stability and the opportunity to be playing in the best stadium this side of the mountains,” Klose smiled.

“It’s just great to be here finally.”

Klose said while the upgrade was happening, OBA lost most of its younger players but plans to bring them back when their new season starts in August.

“Now that we’re here, we’re hoping to get all our juniors back on Wednesday for development,” Klose explained.

“We want to teach them the fundamentals like bouncing a ball and shooting, and then organise a game for them afterwards. We want to come down on a Wednesday and teach them how to play properly.

“Then on Wednesday we’re also going to have refs classes. When they learn something new and the games are happening with the juniors (development), they can start to apply that to the junior games.”

When the new season starts the senior men’s and women’s competitions will be played on Monday, juniors will be on Tuesday, mini ball (development) will be on Wednesday along with the mid-week netball.

The new competition will start on August 3, but before then the OBA will host the Western Junior League finals.

Teams from across the region will come to Orange for the event and the host association has qualified for the 16s boys and girls and 18s boys finals.

Klose hopes Orange’s representative numbers can grow next year, and admitted they’re looking at the possibility of having a Youth League side.

Nominations are being taken for the next OBA season.
