THE Victoria Socialites’ winning run came to an end in the last round of the men’s darts competition.
The Socialites were sitting comfortably in second place but fell 8-3 to the Dad and Daves in a match one Socialites’ player described as not being able to hit the side of a barn.
The Dad and Daves as usual racked up lots of high scores led by Ken Kostitch (3x100, 140, 120), Rob Crowe (5x100), John Fabar (3x100, 140), Justin Medcalf (133, 118, 100), Geoff Hartigan (140, 100) and Kevin Owers (140, 132).
Unusually, only three Socialites hit scores of 100 or more. John Cooper did the best with three 100s and 140 while Maurie Goldstraw had a 120 and 100 and Norm Foley 120.
The Great Western Tigers got going against the Victoria DTs, winning a friendly spirited match 9-2.
Highlights were the first 180 for Tiger Mitch Kennewell and a 127 peg out by the DTs’ Shane McKeown.
The Tigers’ top scorers were Dave Whitmore (4x140, 4x100,127 from only singles and doubles), Jason Hurford (3x100, 125), Barry Wicks (2x100, 140), Mitch Kennewell (180, 140), Nathan Gander (2x100) and Tony Crowhurst (100).
Young novice Matt Baker played well again for the Tigers and will improve each game he has.
Big efforts were put in for the DTs by Shane McKeown (132, 100, 127 peg), Dave Christopher (124, 100), Lionel McKay (132), Max Dennis (140) and Bill Hayek (100).
The Ophir Gold Diggers are going like a house on fire, coming out on top again with an 8-3 win over the Carrington Redbacks.
Will Owers, who tries hard every week, was rewarded with an elusive 180 and backed that up with a 140 and 125.
Colin Rapley (100), Matthew Caughlan (2x100), Adam Hartigan (100), Peter O'Neill (100) and Grant Bloomfield (133) were the other Gold Diggers' big scorers.
Keane Chaves (100), Rod Millar (3x100, 121, 123, 135, 140), Peter Hamilton (100), Dennis Horton (100, 105), Nathan Webster (2x100) and Lachlan O'Neill (118) did the best for the Redbacks.
The Victoria Spitfires had an 8-3 win over the Royal Half Dozen with top scorers Wayne Wallace (100, 121), Mark Wiegold (5x100, 140), Damien Caughlan (100), Adam Ross (139) and Bruce Osborne (109).
Paul Schwarz (100), Tony Smith (2x100) and Scott Willcockson (120, 125) top scored for the Half Dozen.
The Royal T’s put the cleaners through the Metro Muppets with an 11-0 win.
Dan Allen (100, 125, 134), Troy Mavrak (3x100, 121, 125, 140, 100 peg out), Luke Mavrak (2x100), Adam Baker (2x100, 130) and Steve Leonard (100) ran up the big scores.
Luke Pecoski (130) and Roy Leonard (109) were the only Muppets to crack scores of 100.
