ORANGE has owned the World Association 1500 national title since it was introduced to Australia.
Dean Brus maintained the city's stranglehold on the event when he shot a national record to win the Pistol Australia title last week.
Brus shot 1488 out of 1500 in Adelaide to take the title
from Orange club-mate Dave Oates, who won the inaugural title last year.
Oates finished third with 1476 and with Parkes shooter Tony Drabsch finishing second on 1481, NSW took out the teams title.
Oates shot the national record – 1482 – last year but Brus surpassed it at the state title with 1484.
His 1488 in Adelaide secured him a place in the Pistol Australia side to shoot the WA 1500 event at the World Championships in August.
Brus and Oates won three of the four service pistol events at the national titles with Brus claiming the 25-yard service pistol and Oates taking out the service pistol.
Oates was the first NSW shooter out in the service pistol and was confident his 872 total would help his side in the teams event.
"During the day everyone kept falling over and I won the individual," Oates said.
Brus was also third in the service pistol unrestricted and was part of the NSW teams which finished second.
Brus and Oates helped NSW to second in the service pistol teams event.
The Orange duo are getting their passports ready to shoot at the World Championships in Germany in August.
Oates will go as an independent shooter but can join with Brus for a club event.
"I think we're a pretty strong chance over there," Brus said.
"It's worth going over there," Oates added.
The Orange pair will continue to train together and shoot various tournaments including the Orange Open in May.
"It's game on for the next two months," Brus said.
