BEING in charge of the pistol shooting equipment at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games has seen Helen Johnson earn the International Sports Shooting Federation Diploma of Honour bronze medal.
The award is to recognise her contribution to the sport, something which she has been involved with for 33 years.
Johnson was entrusted to ensure all equipment at the Melbourne games was suitable for competition and complied with restrictions in certain divisions.
It came about due to her experience as an international judge where she has officiated at Oceania, national and state championships.
Johnson also worked at the World Cup in Sydney earlier this year.
Officiating at international events overseas is now the goal for Johnson, and husband Brian who is also heavily involved with pistol shooting.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games in India were mentioned but she has many more competitions to officiate in before then.
Johnson is also Orange pistol shooting club treasurer and volunteered at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and Paralympics too.
