RUGBY LEAGUE
AS if a local derby wasn’t enough motivation, Orange Hawks have an added incentive to win tomorrow’s Group 10 clash with Orange CYMS.
Hawks have had a no-shave policy until the premier league side wins a game.
The senior team has not recorded a win this season and the players are starting to look a bit scruffy.
Hawks coach Jaime Kelso hopes that all changes tomorrow after the local derby against CYMS.
“We’re going into it fairly confident we’re going to come away with our first win for the season,” Kelso said.
“The boys are taking their razors to the game. We’ve had a no-shave policy until we win. We hope to come out clean-shaven after this game.”
Two of Hawks’ key players, lock Todd Barrow and centre Glen Bunworth, are keen to remove their beards.
Barrow is blaming Bunworth for coming up with the idea, while Bunworth believes it was a team decision.
“It was a group discussion,” Bunworth said.
“Morale was a bit down, so it was a way to bring the club together and have a bit of a laugh.”
Fresh reserve Simon O’Brien has apparently grown an impressive beard, while some of Hawks’ younger players have struggled to make an impression.
“Nic Coombes, Mitch Hurford and Kyle Byrnes have got four hairs on their face each,” Barrow laughed.
