Focus on runs and not chase

WARATAHS will have to chase down more than 350 runs today to win their Orange District Cricket Association first grade match, but captain Ray Doolan says they’re not thinking about that.

This is the final round before the semi-finals and Waratahs and Orange City are likely to hold onto their places in the top four.

Waratahs could move into third and push Orange City back to fourth if they claim first innings points today.

To do that, Waratahs will have to fire with the bat to chase down City’s 354 posted last week.

“350 is a reasonable target,” Doolan said.

“I think we’ll put the score out of our minds and just try and get something out of the day.

“Everyone is capable of making starts. It’s just a matter of working hard enough to go on with it.”

Doolan admits it would be desirable to finish third just in case the minor semi-final is washed out.

If this were to happen, the higher ranked team would move on to the preliminary final.

The captain isn’t concerned about today’s result because the semi-final is more important.

“Even if we end up fourth, we still get another shot at them (Orange City),” he said.

“You can analyse where you went wrong the week before.”

Today’s match will resume at 1pm at Riawena Oval.
