Tomorrow, multiple Australian and world champions will converge on the forest as the first round of the 2012 Singletrack Mind Series heads west for the first time.
Hosted by the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club, Kate Heynes and Janet Martin are two riders who can’t wait to show off both the standard of the Kinross track and what the region’s mountain bikers have to offer.
“I rode it yesterday and it’s really good,” Heynes said.
“There’s been loads of people out there working on it every other day so it’s perfect. They’ve had some great reports. It’s definitely putting its mark on the map.”
Close to 300 riders are expected to compete in the enduro event.
Competitors will ride for seven hours straight in either teams or solo, aiming to complete as many laps of the 8.4 kilometre track as possible.
Heynes has competed in the Singletrack Mind Series in the past.
However, tomorrow’s round one race is her first time back on the bike since having a baby.
Both Heynes and Martin are riding as solos.
“I’ve done a few of them now, this is only (the series’) third year. I did all of the first series and loved that, went really well in that. I only did one of last year’s, though,” Heynes said.
“I’d love to ride the whole seven hours.”
Martin on the other hand is a relative new-comer to the solo off-road circuit.
But Heynes believes Martin will be the one to beat.
Martin said she was looking forward to the experience.
“I haven’t done this series before. I’ve done a lot of team mountain biking events, actually a few with Kate which was great. This is my first larger solo one. I’m just hoping to ride strongly for seven hours,” Martin said.
“We did the Ginja Ninja. That was good, it’s a great track.
“It’s just exciting for the club that the race has actually come to Orange. It’s a good series and for it to be held in our local forest is great.”
Riding tomorrow will begin at 8am.
