CYMS continued their winning run against Centrals on Wednesday night to move to the top of the Royal Hotel Cup ladder.
The green and golds have won four consecutive matches in the Royal Hotel Cup and Orange District Cricket Association first grade in a run that has shot them up the standings.
Wednesday’s 23-run win over Centrals puts CYMS on top of the Royal Hotel Cup ladder, although they have played one more game than their nearest rivals.
CYMS batted first at Wade Park and were on the back foot early when they lost Matt Baker (1) to sit at 1-5.
Ian Clatworthy (22), Dean Turner (13) and captain Jake Sands (12) made starts but didn’t go on with it as former CYMS seamer Daniel Sandford took 3-19 to have his old club at 7-72.
But youngster Nick Wright and Allan Dhatt combined for a crucial 70-run eighth-wicket partnership to help CYMS to what proved to be a match-winning total.
Wright dominated, scoring 63 not out, while Dhatt was dismissed for 14 as CYMS made 8-147 from their 40 overs.
John Dickson (3-27) and Matt Morrow (2-33) started the CYMS defence well as they combined to remove the Centrals top order to have them at 6-96.
Dhatt then continued his outstanding form with the ball as he polished off the lower-order on his way to figures of 3-14 from eight overs, including four maidens.
Centrals were bowled out for 124 in the 37th over in a batting performance that disappointed captain Wes Roweth.
“Everyone was pretty disappointed last night. We did an excellent job with the ball ... and we just didn’t apply ourselves with the bat,” Roweth said.
Royal Hotel Cup action returns to Wade Park tonight as Waratahs take on Orange City from 5.30pm.
Orange City can join CYMS at the top of the Royal Hotel Cup ladder with their second win of the competition, while Waratahs are looking for their first win in just their second game of the day/night competition.
