KINROSS Wolaroi School coach Mark Gardner has put his side’s exit from the Macquarie Bank Cup down to a poor semi-final performance rather than facing Westfield Sports High School this week.
The two teams met at the Shore School in Sydney and Gardner thinks Kinross produced a sub-par performance in the semi-final.
He believes this is the reason behind their loss, not the fact they were taking on a selective sports school.
“We’ve beaten Endeavour (Sports) High before and I just think we weren’t at the top of our game,” Gardner said.
Westfield batted first and made 9-230 from their 50 overs, despite the efforts of Pat Davis, who took 4-38 with the ball.
In reply, Chris Tremain made a half-century and was supported by Jason Date (30) and Tom Baker (26), but the Orange school fell 60 runs short in their chase as they were bowled out for 170 in the 40th over.
Three run-outs, two of which occurred in two balls, spoiled Kinross’ run chase and Gardner says these put an end to any chance they had of securing victory.
Kinross were without star spinner Angus Polhill on the spin-friendly pitch at the Shore School as he was playing with the Country under 17s at Bowral’s Bradman Oval.
Polhill picked up a wicket against City but was overlooked for the NSW under 17s team.
City comfortably beat Country in the two-day match.
And former Kinross player Sandy Rogers will be out of action for up to two months after dislocating a thumb last weekend.
