ORANGE will take a largely unchanged outfit into tonight’s Mitchell Cricket Council Platypus Challenge Cup against Bathurst at Wade Park.
The match was rescheduled from two weeks ago when rain put paid to any chance of the match taking place at Riawena Oval and after declining the opportunity to play the match on a synthetic pitch it was decided a day-night game would be the perfect way to complete the summer.
After performing strongly in their last match against Mudgee, Orange’s chairman of selectors Gary Colley has taken to the adage ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it’.
“Basically we’ve stuck with the same team that won their Platypus Cup game against Mudgee,” Colley said.
“If they keep on winning the games then they will keep on playing in the team.”
Colley believes the side is capable of accounting for the Bathurst outfit.
“Not knowing who is in their side, I’d still be reasonably confident of coming away with the win,” he said.
“The side we have picked is a good, well-balanced side. The batsmen need to make the runs and the bowlers should be able to get the wickets.
“They’ll have to do the basics well.”
The winner of tonight’s match will meet the Blue Mountains on Sunday and Colley is hopeful all of the players will be available to play in both games.
“Unless someone pulls out, at this stage it’ll be the same side for the Blue Mountains game on Sunday,” he said.
Bathurst selectors have named a near full-strength side for tonight’s match, which starts at 5.30pm at Wade Park.
