WHEN Orange City line up in today’s Orange District Cricket Association first grade match they have two goals.
The first is to beat clubmates City Warriors in their one-day match at Riawena Oval.
The second is to move into top spot on the competition ladder.
“We’ve got to steal top spot off Centrals,” Orange City captain Dave Boundy said.
City were on top of the ladder until Centrals grabbed an outright win against City Warriors in round five.
This pushed the defending champions back on the top of the first grade ladder and they now have a six-point lead over second-placed City.
With three rounds left in the Saturday competition, Boundy believes his side can get themselves back on top.
“We really haven’t reached our potential,” Boundy said.
“Batting-wise, the top five haven’t all clicked yet. Nathan Rosser got his first decent score for the season in Dubbo last week. It’s good but I’d rather he do it here. Maybe it’s coming.
“We’re starting to wind up to the semis and that’s where it’s important.”
The City captain said the players have been putting in plenty of effort at training and this was getting results in games.
“We’ve played some good cricket,” he said.
“I think we’ve had some close wins and I look at that as a positive because if you lose the close ones, they hurt you.
“This year we’ve put a big emphasis on training. It’s showing in the field.”
This season’s wet weather has played havoc with the cricket competition but Boundy hoped it might work in his team’s favour with today’s game being reduced from a two-day match.
“Maybe that break’s not a bad thing because our guys have not been batting well, they haven’t put the partnerships together,” he said.
“Maybe the break will be good, maybe not. We’ll have to see.”
Today’s match between Orange City and City Warriors will be played at Riawena Oval from 1pm.
