EDWARD Morrish has had a brief but successful career with Orange CYMS to date.
The 19-year-old joined the club this season and has played three Orange District Cricket Association matches.
He started out in second grade where he took 2-51 and 1-6 and made 44 against Centrals.
His first grade debut was a successful one where the left arm paceman claimed 4-38 off eight overs against Cavaliers in December.
He produced his best against Centrals in CYMS’ Royal Hotel Cup win on Wednesday night.
Morrish took 5-20 off five overs and helped remove Centrals for 38.
“They were my best figures,” Morrish said.
“It was my first five-for. My first over wasn’t too crash hot but then Sam Dwyer took a couple of wickets at the other end and we just fed off each other.”
Amazingly, Morrish used to be known for his batting.
In junior teams he opened the batting before going to St Stanislaus College in Bathurst where the first grade coach noticed the teenager’s ability with the ball.
It is an important game for both teams today as they fight for a semi-final place.
The two sides are tied in the ODCA overall competition ladder on 40 points, however Kinross grab fourth place based on a superior quotient.
CYMS captain Dave Neil knows a win today could play a big hand in his side’s semi-final hopes.
“This is an important game for us. We need the win to give us a real shot at making the semi-finals,” Neil said.
“Wednesday’s win was good but it didn’t really test us. So the guys need to play well against Kinross.”
Kinross coach Mark Gardner said his side will be at full strength.
“It’s a must-win game for us,” Gardner said.
“If CYMS win both (ODCA games) they’re in but if we win one, I think we can get in there.”
Today’s match will be played at Kinross Oval from 1pm.
