CYMS recorded one of the quickest wins in Royal Hotel Cup history on Wednesday night.
CYMS stunned Centrals with an eight-wicket victory at Wade Park.
So quick was the game, the lights were never switched on and the players went home in daylight.
CYMS captain Hamish Finlayson admitted he was surprised at how the game played out.
“To be honest, it’s all a bit of a blur,” Finlayson said.
Centrals won the toss and elected to bat but it did not go well from the start.
Centrals opener Chris Fenton was removed for a duck off the game’s fifth ball.
Things went from bad to worse and fellow opener Nick Dunlop (0) and Centrals captain Mick Walker (3) were both removed in the fourth over for the side to be at 3-7.
Mitch Harvey attempted to breath some life into Centrals’ innings but was also removed for 10 after being caught off a Sam Dwyer delivery.
Centrals continued to crumble and were all out for 38.
Ed Morrish annihilated the Centrals batting line up, taking 5-20 off his five overs of pace.
Dwyer was just as lethal, claiming 4-14 off his 5.2 overs.
“It was one of those games where everything worked for us. The wickets just kept falling,” Finlayson said.
“The bowlers were putting it in the right areas and their batsmen didn’t look like they had any patience.”
However, it didn’t all go smoothly for the CYMS bowlers with Dwyer warned about running on the wicket and then removed from bowling two balls into his sixth over by the umpire.
Finlayson (1-1) finished the over with great success, claiming the wicket of Mathew Tedeschi with his second ball.
It took CYMS less than 12 overs to make the winning runs as they reached 39 with eight wickets in hand.
Opener John Warrington (10) and Adam Smith (4) were removed by Centrals captain Mick Walker (2-13) as Chris Kostoglou (17 not out) and Tom Satterthwaite (5no) remained unbeaten.
Finlayson said the side was confident of chasing the 39 runs they needed to win.
“There would have been something wrong with us if we didn’t chase it down,” he said.
“I guess in the back of our minds there was a hint of doubt, but we knew we could do it.”
The win is an important one for CYMS in the overall Orange District Cricket Association first grade ladder.
It moves them into a share of fourth place with Kinross.
“The boys were all pretty excited. We got to sing the team song for once. Some of the guys didn’t know the words though,” Finlayson laughed.
