WITH the weather in Orange bouncing between minus and single digits, residents are stocking up on thermal underwear to keep themselves warm throughout winter.
Jack Evans Stores manager Murray Evans says he has noticed residents buying more thermals as the weather gets colder.
“People have different temperature thresholds, some people will buy them at the start of winter, while some people wait until they can’t handle the cold to buy their thermals,” he said.
Mr Evans said the biggest buyers of long sleeve, short sleeve, long johns and sock thermals were school children and men.
“A lot of school children will come and buy thermals when they’ve got excursions and our other biggest client would have to be men that work outdoors, we sell to women as well, but it’s not as common,” he said.
“A lot of people buy thermal shirts, probably because the top half is the biggest part of you, so that’s the most important part to keep warm.”
Mr Murray said thermals had lots of benefits including being hardly noticeable because of their thin fabric, so he’s not surprised people are taking the opportunity to stay warm.
“They’re easy to care for too, you can wash them in the machine with other clothes and they’re quick drying so you can wash them the night before and they’ll be ready to wear the next morning,” he said.
“Not many people know they work but thermals trap and retain body heat as well as quickly transferring moisture and sweat away from the skin, keeping you dry and warm.”
