IF you’re one of the many sweltering ratepayers scratching your head wondering when the Orange Aquatic Centre will open, wonder no longer.
All things going to plan Orange City Council would throw open the gates to pool-goers this Saturday, commercial and emergency services manager Kel Gardiner said on Monday.
And in a first, the main and diving pool will this year be filled by two million litres of water sourced from an established bore at Orange Showground.
Water carting trucks have been a common site at the pool over recent days as they’ve carried water from the bore.
It costs about $700 every day the trucks are running back and forward.
“It’s the first year we’ve done it, and are looking at a more permanent solution in the future,” Mr Gardiner said.
He said recent construction works at the pool had delayed its opening.
Councillor Fiona Rossiter said the community should have been better informed about the delayed opening and new source of water.
“While I respect the decision to use bore water as opposed to drinking water, the point is we should have been informed,” she said.
“It’s a really important step that’s been missed.”
