The students, from years 7 to 12, will play a range of classical and rock instruments, dance in a variety of styles, from modern to hip hop, and bring their own sense of drama to the production.
Yesterday students performing in the spectacular spent the day practising in the Performing Arts Centre to finetune their skills.
Music teacher Chris Mickle said the rock program at the school continued to attract strong numbers of students.
“These are students who just love their music but they may not necessarily want to go down the path of classical music,” she said.
Among the performers at the Spectacular tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday nights is a group of Year 7 students, who have yet to be introduced to the music curriculum at the school.
“They just know we have a rock band program here and before they started studying music they decided to get together one night a week to practise,” Mrs Mickle said.
Another of the performers is the Year 10, all-girl rock band.
“This is the third year in a row we have performed in the spectacular, it’s great fun,” vocalist Amanda Maguire said.
“We decided in our Year 7 music class that we would just like to form a band and it went from there,” Rachael Bastiaansen said.
Mrs Mickle said tickets for Thursday night’s show had sold out.
“So we would prefer people to call the school office beforehand to organise their tickets, so people won’t be disappointed,” she said.
