Sheep baa the way of tip visit

05 Nov, 2009 07:51 AM
A SECRET visit to the site of a proposed super-tip near Molong came to a halt before it even began yesterday after a flock of sheep temporarily blocked Planning Minister Kristina Keneally from conducting an inspection with key objectors.

The minister travelled to the Euchareena Road site to meet with Hub Action Group members Chris McIntosh, Garth Hogg and nearby beekeeper Ian Gosper.

The nature of the part 3A application, lodged by Orange City Council earlier this year, means the planning minister will have the final say on whether the controversial project is approved.

The last planning minister to visit the site was Frank Sartor, who in June 2005 was greeted by over 150 protestors.

Minister Keneally yesterday avoided protestors but was instead greeted by dozens of sheep that blocked Euchareena Road for approximately five minutes.

“I understand that for Orange City Council and its residents it’s very important to have a future plan [but] we need to assess this project on its merits,” Ms Keneally told the Central Western Daily after the inspection.

“This project will be determined on a range of issues, not just the issues I’ve heard today.”

Hub Action Group spokesperson Christine McIntosh praised the minister for “wanting to hear” concerns about the project.

Well done to the Hub Action Group for their professional approach to The Ministers visit. What a sensible approach not to barrage the minister with numbers of Protesters, That paves the way for a good hearing. Well done.

Yep, looks like a paddock with a few mangy sheep.
