Science has the formula for kids

IN an effort to foster children’s interest in science, a travelling hands-on-science program Questacon is staging a series of workshops at the Orange City Library.

Catering to children under the age of six years old, participants, including carers, were encouraged to help children explore themes such as light, sound, liquids and living things according to Questacon Science Play presenter Cordelia Hough.

Ms Hough said that while children are frequently encouraged to develop their literacy and numerical skills, science is often an area that is overlooked.

“We are also hoping to encourage carers and educators not to be intimidated by science,” said Ms Hough.

The booked-out sessions include a component of performance as well as free play where children can experiment with shadow play tents, homemade musical instruments and unusual puzzles and mazes.

Questacon Science Play is an outreach program of Australia’s National Science and Technology Centre Questacon.
