A GROUP of horse lovers made big strides in better understanding their horses over the past three days at a horsemanship clinic at Orange Showground.
Renowned horsemanship teacher Melanie Fleming conducted a three-day clinic for members of the Central West Savvy Club.
The fledgling club, which boasts 21 members, was set up to help horse enthusiasts feel more confident around their animals and president Chris Lawry says they will benefit from Ms Fleming’s visit.
The internationally recognised teacher is based in Moonbi, near Tamworth, and her tutelage leads to rapid improvement.
“The breakthroughs that people have with their horses is incredible in the few days that she’s here,” Mrs Lawry said.
Ms Fleming’s teachings draw on theory and simulation and is intended to help a person feel more connected with their horse.
“We’re looking at how to really connect with horses and how to understand a horse mentally, emotionally, physically and even spiritually,” she said.
Central West Savvy Club member Belinda Hall has benefited from her involvement with the horsemanship group, as she can now interact with her horse much easier.
“It’s given me a better relationship with my horse where I can communicate with her without having to use force and intimidation,” she said.
“You get a happier horse out of it.”
The Central West Savvy Club meet monthly at various locations, predominately around Orange.
