HIGH profile rugby player Julian Huxley left Canberra yesterday morning on his bike ride to Orange to help raise funds for Orange’s radiotherapy treatment accommodation.
Riding alongside the Australian Wallaby and Brumbies fullback were head of Cancer Care Western NSW John Carpenter and his daughter Claire.
Mr Carpenter and Claire are both cancer survivors with Claire diagnosed while she was just 16 and still at school.
Julian Huxley is still battling his brain tumour and is using his time off from treatment to support the cancer fundraising events planned for Orange this weekend for the inaugural Masters of Rugby Union activities planned for Orange.
Riding along behind Julian and the others in a support vehicle yesterday was Julian’s mother Kerrie Huxley.
Last night the weary group pulled into Boorowa and today the second leg of the ride began and will end at Cowra this afternoon.
Tomorrow morning James Grant of Orange will head out of Cowra alongside Huxley to offer moral support on the last leg of the journey to Orange.
The group and support vehicle are expected to arrive in Orange mid afternoon.
Mayor John Davis and representatives of Cancer Care Western NSW will welcome Julian Huxley and the other riders at 3.30pm at the band rotunda.
Residents of Orange are being urged to turn out and welcome the riders.
