“I just looked at it and thought, what is that?” she said.
“It looks like junk jewellery.”
Mrs Forbes and her daughter Bec Wills were members of the audience of 6000 that attended the taping of one of Oprah’s shows at the Opera House last year as part of the talk-show queen’s Ultimate Australian Adventure tour in December.
All audience members were promised a special commemorative gift featuring Rio Tinto argyle diamonds on a white gold chain necklace.
Mrs Forbes said after months of waiting for the necklace to arrive she was speechless when she eventually saw it yesterday morning.
“I had to put my glasses on and use my magnifying glass to see the pink tinge in the diamond,” she said.
“My husband said the box looks more expensive than the necklace, he said it looks like chrome junk.
“The one I got was different from the one Oprah gave the six women on the show.”
Mrs Forbes said she still planned to keep the necklace and eventually give it to her daughter when she gets older.
“I’m not ungrateful, it’s just not what we were told we were getting.”
