The Canobolas NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) will hold an open day at its Fire Control Centre, on the corner of Forest and Cadia roads, from 10am to 3pm.
Canobolas zone operations officer Steve Smith said the open day was a great way for local residents to get to know the volunteers who would protect them and their community in the event of a bushfire.
“It’s a great opportunity for residents to build relationships with their local RFS members in a relaxed environment,” he said.
“Kids will love jumping in the fire trucks, having a go with the fire hose or watching our volunteers display their skills, and for the grown-ups there’ll be plenty of information available about how to keep their home and family safe this fire season.”
The city’s rescue helicopter will also be on the helipad for inspection during most of the day.
The open day is usually held at the RFS North West Orange brigade however the construction of the Ploughman’s Creek Stormwater Harvesting Scheme forced its relocation to the Fire Control Centre.
