HE is still relatively new to his role in mental health but Bloomfield Hospital’s Matthew Rowe was yesterday awarded nurse of the year for the Western NSW Local Health District (LHD).

Mr Rowe started working in mental health just six years ago and has dedicated his time to research and improving patient outcomes.
“I was quite humble to be nominated because as a role it’s all about patient outcomes,” he said.
“It’s such a rewarding job and we work with a special group of people in mental health.”
In his role as acting nursing unit manager in the female rehabilitation ward Mr Rowe focuses on acute care and recovery practices.
Mr Rowe said he felt privileged to be a part of a patient’s recovery process at Bloomfield Hospital.
Nursing Leadership and Workforce Development manager Linda Malone said Mr Rowe was selected from over 2500 nurses across the Western NSW LHD.
“He was a standout nominee for this year because of his work with the Recovery Star Program,” she said.
The program is essential in developing patient skills so they can live independently in a community environment, Ms Malone said.
As part of his award Mr Rowe will receive a scholarship to attend a health conference in the next 12 months.
