VISITORS to Saturday’s Gnoo Blas Classic Car Show at Jack Brabham Park will be given the chance to meet motor racing legend Allan Moffat.
While most people associate Mr Moffat with Ford, he raced other cars including Holdens in his long career.
However, it’s his exploits when driving the factory-backed Falcons that will be remembered most.
As the Ford performance vehicle ambassador, Mr Moffat is one of the special guests at the show and at the enthusiasts’ dinner that night.
Gnoo Blas classic car president Denis Gregory said Mr Moffat will have plenty of good stores to tell as he reminisces about his career including his wins at Bathurst in 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1977.
“He was also Australian Touring Car Champion in 1973, 1976, 1977 and 1983, Australian Endurance Champion in 1982 and 1984, Australian Sports Sedan Champion in 1976 and Australian Sports Car Champion in 1980,” Mr Gregory said.
“He had an amazing career and we feel very lucky to have secured him for this year’s event.”
Joining Mr Moffat at the car show will be V8 supercars race director Tim Schenken, who is one of only four Australians to win points in the Formula 1 world championship grand prix.
Mr Schenken is also clerk of the course for the Australian and Singapore F1 grand prixes and chairman of the Australian Grand Prix organising committee.
NRMA president Wendy Machin will also be at the show and dinner which will be hosted by ABC motoring editor Will Hagon.
Mr Gregory said he expects this year’s show to attract more than 300 cars of every possible make, including race cars.
There will also be special displays by the Army, Orange Kart Club, Bathurst TAFE, Orange Fire Brigade and a fashion parade.
The show kicks off from 10.30am.
