The groups met on Saturday at the Environmental Learning Facility (ELF) with hard hats, banners and sunny images in an effort to highlight the importance of solar energy.
Participants are calling on member for Calare John Cobb to get behind the renewable energy fund.
“Australia is the sunniest country on earth, so it just makes sense that we start to use this vast resource to provide us with large amounts of safe, clean energy,” Orange Climate Action Now spokesperson Brian Phillips said.
“Solar energy can bring lots of jobs and investment to regional Australia. The cost of coal and gas goes up each year, whereas the cost of renewable energy will become cheaper, and the fuel is free, non-polluting and will never run out. Investing in solar energy will help manage rising energy prices.”
The groups, along with the Bathurst Community Climate Action Network (BCCAN), are calling on Mr Cobb to support the formation of the clean energy fund and the establishment of a clean energy finance corporation that could link up with private enterprise in developing big solar installations throughout Australia.
“We are calling on Mr Cobb to throw his support behind the $10 billion fund in Parliament and ensure that it is an effective vehicle for the construction of big solar plants,” Mr Phillips said.
