Future secure for Game Council

06 Nov, 2009 07:48 AM
THE NSW Game Council’s Orange headquarters will not close under a Liberal/Nationals government, Opposition primary industries spokesman Duncan Gay announced this week.

Mr Gay, NSW Nationals leader Andrew Stoner and other party figures met with NSW Game Council chief executive officer Brian Boyle and chairman Robert Borsak on Wednesday to discuss the future of the controversial government department.

“I wanted to come to Orange to dispel the unfounded comments that are circulating regarding the future of the NSW Game Council,” Mr Gay said.

“These comments have unfortunately made sections of the Central West community worried. To cast doubt over the future of the NSW Game Council in Orange is pointless and untrue, quite frankly it’s completely unnecessary.

“It was very positive to be able to reassure staff face-to-face that their jobs will be safe under a NSW Coalition government.

“Management and staff were grateful that we could come and clarify our position that the NSW Liberals and Nationals have no plans whatsoever to close the department when we get into government in 2011.”

The NSW Game Council headquarters employs about 20 staff.

The NSW Greens are campaigning to scrap the body, claiming it has not been able to meet its objective of controlling feral animals and is a financial drain on taxpayers.

Why support them now Mr Gay. The shooters party used their balance of power numbers to blackmail the current government into establishing the Game Council. You rightly did not support them then! One of the reasons the current government is so “on the nose” is because of its dodgy dealings with the shooters party. Surely a Lib/Nat Government would not conspire with this bunch of Rednecks. I absolutely agree that country people have legitimate uses for firearms. Boof heads coming from the city and shooting on our public land for fun is not on. You will pay at the ballot box if you support them. Even the current government is backing away from the shooters party after they showed their true colours in the current bill they are trying to get passed. Feral animal control is a smokescreen and we all know it. The establishment and maintenance of Game Animal numbers for sporting use is the real deal. Is this what the Nationals stand for?? Turning our State forests and National parks into un-declared Game parks?

Can them. Waste of money. I've done more for controlling feral animals with my bull bar and tyres than this lot of fancy boys holed up in the centre of town.

Fellow deer have been released into our National parks presumably to be use as Game by shooters. The people responsible for this outrageous act of environmental vandalism are not conservation hunters, they are eco-vandals of the highest order. Our National Parks are not Game Parks.

Falllow deer (what on earth are fellow deer) were released by bankrupt deer farmers during the 1990s recession, and have also become established in the wild via escapes from farms, etc. The most biggest threat to the Australian environment is left wing feral Green voters, not hunters.
