Festival funds scarce as hen’s teeth

02 Oct, 2009 08:51 AM
THE music line-up is locked in but organisers of November’s Freshly Plucked Festival are still seeking sponsorship to make this year’s event the biggest yet.

Despite securing the festival’s best line-up to date, organisers say they’ve been forced to make cutbacks to the event’s budget because of a funding shortfall.

“We’re still on the hunt for more sponsorship at the moment,” Orange City Council youth development officer Jason Lowe said.

Magic Dirt will headline this year’s festival and The Fumes, Regular John, The Jezabels, Claude Hay and Dreadnaught will also perform.

The Lyndon Community, a non-government organisation that provides drug and alcohol treatment programs, has provided $2500 in funding to the festival, which is an all-ages, drug and alcohol free event.

“It’s a great way to remind people that there are other ways to have fun without drinking or taking drugs,” Lyndon Community executive officer Craig Mills said.

Freshly Plucked Festival project officer Tara Selwood encouraged other local organisations to offer their support.

“It’s supporting the young people of this town,” she said.

“Young people are developing skills, it gives them something to do and young musicians are getting the chance to play alongside bands like Magic Dirt.”

Any businesses interested in providing sponsorship can contact Ms Selwood on 0407 208 467.

Freshly Plucked Festival tickets are now on sale through Ticketek and selected outlets, see www.freshlyplucked.com.au.

My rates better not be poured into this slush fund by council when you talking about slugging us an extra $56 for carting rubbish to the hub!

Wouldn't hurt the cops to sponsor something like this out of the money they seize from drug dealers. It helps the community and keeps the bored kids off the street from tagging and committing crimes.
