MAYOR John Davis has been accused of orchestrating a “sneaky and deceptive” trip to Sydney to meet the NSW water minister without the knowledge of his fellow councillors.
Cr Davis yesterday conducted a 30 minute meeting in Governor Macquarie Tower to brief Water Minister Phil Costa on Orange’s water crisis.
He travelled to Sydney alongside general manager Garry Styles, technical services director Chris Devitt and Infrastructure Policy Committee chairperson, Cr Sam Romano.
However Glenn Taylor has claimed he and other councillors were “never told about the trip” despite attending a two hour water briefing session the night before the delegation’s departure to Sydney.
“We’re outraged by this, they haven’t even got the decency to let us know why they are going, it’s a disgrace and typical John Davis,” Cr Taylor said yesterday.
“We don’t even know what they are speaking about or why they are meeting with him but as is normal with John Davis we’ll only probably find out what he’s been up to by reading the Central Western Daily.
“I’ve tried my best but he is one bloke I just can’t work with, he’s a one man band.”
When contacted yesterday Cr Davis did not deny councillors had not been informed about the meeting with the water minister.
“I won’t comment on what has been said about me because the meeting with the minister is too important and the subject is too important to be sidetracked by others,” Cr Davis said.
“I don’t want to hurt what we’re setting out to do, which is actually achieve something for Orange.”
Councillors would be briefed on the content and outcome of the negotiations with Minister Costa at Thursday’s council meeting, Cr Davis said.
