CLAIMS of bullying, intimidation and denying workers access to meet with union officials have been rejected by Electrolux management.
The Swedish-owned appliances company has come under attack from the Australia Workers’ Union (AWU).
In an article posted on the AWU website, Electrolux has been accused of consistently attacking workers’ right at its Orange-based facility.
In the article, AWU greater NSW branch secretary Russ Collison accused Electrolux of “actively working to de-unionise the site” by favouring lower-paid non-union labour hire and denying meetings between the workplace union and its members.
It has also been alleged by Mr Collison’s deputy, assistant secretary Stephen Bali, that workers have been bullied and intimidated at the workplace.
However, those claims have been dismissed by Electrolux general manager Mark O’Kane.
“We refute those claims,” he said.
“We are surprised by the allegations.
“Last month [the company and the workforce agreed on an enterprise bargaining agreement. It was voted in favour by a majority of the employees.”
However, Mr Bali said union officials had been having difficulty working with the Orange site.
“Unfortunately Electrolux are fighting us all the way,” he said.
Mr Bali said the union wanted to meet with their members on-site but were not allowed to.
Instead officials and their members meet in the skills centre on the other side of the road of Electrolux or in the car park.
“We just want fair access to the site,” he said.
Mr Bali said the AWU had received half a dozen complaints in the last month from workers about certain issues including bullying and intimidation.
Mr Bali said workers had been threatened they would be moved into different departments if they reported bullying or intimidation at the site, an accusation dismissed by Mr O’Kane.
“I have an open door policy,” Mr O’Kane said.
“We investigate every issue very seriously.”
Electrolux is one of Orange’s largest employers, employing about 600 people at its facility.
It is an international leader in home appliances and appliances for professional use, selling more than 40 million products to customers in 150 countries every year.
