DESPITE a recent donation from Cadia Valley Operations, Canobolas Rural Technology High School is still well short of being able to afford a new school bus.
P&C president Ian Spurway said the school is in desperate need of a new bus.
“The bus is a vital piece of student curriculum for things such as sport, music and excursions,” he said.
Canobolas students say it is awful driving long distances in a 20-year-old bus.
“Trips to Sydney especially, the bus struggles trying to get up Mount Victoria,” said year 12 student Tegan Ryan.
Mr Spurway says the school shouldn’t have to depend on this unreliable bus for travel, and has appealed to the community for extra donations for their cause.
“The P&C would greatly appreciate any donations towards the bus replacement,” he said.
Cadia community relations manager Nedra Burns was at the school on Friday to receive a small plaque of gratitude from the staff and students, thanking the company for their generosity.
“We are more than happy to support local schools. Education and health are things we believe strongly in and enjoy donating funds towards,” Ms Burns said.
Cadia also donated funding for scholarships to Canobolas earlier in the year.
“Standard donations are available for schools in the Blayney, Cabonne and Orange area,” Ms Burns said.
Despite Cadia’s contribution, Canobolas hasn’t even approached the halfway mark of being able to afford a new school bus.
