BREAKING NEWS - NINE YEAR OLD STUDENT KILLED IN ORANGE

29 Jan, 2010 07:24 AM
THE first day of the school year has been marred by tragedy, with an eight year old boy killed after being struck by a car in Orange yesterday afternoon.

Police believe the boy was attempting to cross Racecourse Road, near the Banksia Street intersection, when he was struck by an eastbound Mazda Tribute.

The boy was thrown an unknown distance and suffered serious head and chest injuries.

He was rushed to Orange Base Hospital in a critical condition but died overnight during emergency surgery.

It's believed the boy was a student at the nearby Calare Public School.

The 33 year old female driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police from the Canobolas Local Area Command and Chifley Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene to carry out an investigation.

Police are urging witnesses to the accident to contact Orange detectives on 6363 6399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000.

The child's death is the fourth tragedy to strike Orange in less than a week.

On Saturday, 33 year old Darlene Ambrose was killed during a two vehicle accident near Lucknow.

On Wednesday, 19 year-old former Kinross Wolaroi School students Eliza Wannan and Will Dalton-Brown died from injuries sustained from a camping accident near Orange.

The OCC has been collecting money for a very long time from developers for footpaths on all new developments. So please explain to me where are all these footpaths. astonsihed the OCC does need to explain to all Orange residents where this money goes, obviously not footpaths. we do have some new artwork for a undisclosed amount. lets do whatever possible to make our roads safer for children and everyone
