A focus on rare breeds has made the Annual Orange Poultry Club Show an attraction for breeders and curious onlookers alike.
Organisers were thrilled with the numbers of entrants and spectators who braved the cold at Orange Showground on Saturday.
Poultry club president Adam Richards said there were about 75 exhibitors and 200 people in total.
“We catered for about 75 people and we were running out of food by 10 o’clock. We had a lot of members of the public. Our club has been promoting rare poultry breeds for the last couple of years and it’s a novelty for the public. There’s a marvellous variety and people would normally never get to see them,” he said.
A rare breed on show included a silver grey dorking.
Mr Richards said exhibitors travelled from around the state.
“We were really pleased with how the show went. People are travelling distances and actually bringing money into the town. In our small way, it’s contributing to the greater good for Orange,” he said.
Poultry Club member Norma Thomas was made a life member during the show on Saturday after 47 years showing birds.
