A rewarding experience for Rotary club

27 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
The 12 months of planning that went into the organisation of the Experience Orange Expo has paid off for Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak with the organisation named community group of the year at yesterday’s Australia Day ceremony.

The club’s service director Ric Cother said the award came as a surprise to the group’s members.

“There are lots of groups in the community who often behind the scenes are pulling their weight to make Orange a better place to live,” he said.

Mr Cother and fellow Rotary member Sue Moffatt were especially proud of the “massive undertaking” that was the Experience Orange Expo held early last year.

“It was the first of its kind in Orange,” Mr Cother said.

“We had 128 groups who showcased their hobbies, interests and passions to the wider community.”

The group’s continual work hosting the farmers’ markets and raising $40,000 from last year’s Rotary Ball was also acknowledged as part of the award.

“It was an exceptional year for us,” Mr Cother said.
