TOWAC Park is the place to be on Saturday, January 28, for the ever-popular Orange Picnic Races.
The annual event attracts people from across the central west, with more than 2500 people expected to attend this year’s event.
Orange and District Picnic Race Committee president Ben O’Halloran said the event featured six races with TAB facilities on offer.
“It’s a good day to get dressed up...fashions on the field will be very big,” he said.
“It’s one of the best events before al the kids go back to school...the last weekend before life gets serious again.”
The ever-popular fashions on the field event always attracts big crowds, with this year’s event set to be no different, according to Mr O’Halloran.
The Blowes Menswear and Indulgence Hair Fashions on the Field will showcase three categories across the race day: best dressed lady, best ladies hat and best dressed man will attract strong competition, with each offering a first place and runners-up prize.
Orange fashionista and owner of fashion boutique Iglou, Pip Brett, said her biggest tip for dressing to win was to go bold.
“Bright and bold block colours, be brave and have fun with it. Mix, match and clash,” she said.
Ms Brett said to be a winner you must pay attention to the appropriateness of the outfit for summer racing.
“You will display individual attention to detail with accessories. Appropriate headwear is encouraged for men and is mandatory for women,” she said.
Mr O’Halloran said the event dated back more than a century, with funds from the race day going to charity.
Money raised from this year’s event will be donated to Orange City Council’s Merge holiday program.
Mr O’Halloran said the program was very beneficial for young people across the city in providing them with fun activities they would not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in, while encouraging them to meet people and learn new skills.
Orange Picnic Races is on Saturday, January 28. Gates open at noon and entry is $15. Entry is free for children under 14.
